Doors Slammed: What Every Therapist Needs to Know About Business

Doors Slammed is a raw look at what happens when life doesn’t gently close chapters; it slams them shut.

This book explores grief, identity, and the quiet aftermath of loss; when everything you thought defined you disappears. It’s about losing people, versions of yourself, certainty, safety, and the narratives you were taught to follow. And then realizing that survival alone is no longer enough.

Jeanette Lira, LPC-S, writes from lived experience, not theory. In the middle of profound personal loss, she was also building a private practice and learning the hard way what no one ever teaches in school: how to run a business, protect your energy, pivot when things fall apart, and rebuild when the structure you trusted no longer works.

As the business struggled, failed, and forced uncomfortable decisions, Jeanette was confronted with a second loss; the collapse of the identity she had built around “doing everything right.” What followed was not a clean comeback story, but a reckoning. One that required letting go of what wasn’t sustainable, rewriting the rules, and creating something entirely new.
